During the summer, I found a large quantity of small, glass, candle holders. I thought that it might be interesting to start painting them with acrylics. I still have many, many more so look forward to new designs! I've put the rest of the images in the Sculpture section of my website, so feel free to check them out! As for an update, I'm terribly sorry I haven't been able to update my website in so long. I'm nearing the end of my Student Teaching experience and have been wonderfully busy with that! But now that chapter is coming to an end, and I shall hopefully have time to work on my own artwork!

Recently, I've been pushed to explore new methods of expressing my thoughts in visual ways. I'm most comfortable with two-dimensional work, with drawing and painting. So for my most recent piece, I decided to take a risk.
Although not a graphic design major, I’ve always loved using the computer to create art. I think Photoshop, as well as being a tool for making drawings and other things for me, can allow me to be a bit of a trickster. I can deceive people by altering images, making little hints, clues, and jokes in my work. There’s a bit of trickery in my work, and it will be fascinating to see who understands it. My second part of it being "renegade" for me comes from the fact that it’s a sculpture, and it has a slightly activist feel to it. I usually avoid both, believing that sculpture has never been one of my strong points. I’m also not “angry” or “passionate” about a lot of issues to make art about it. I’ll usually talk to others about it instead of using visual expression. But this time, I wanted to push myself to get out of that thinking habit. With this work, I wanted that trickery present while bringing up the concept of the relationship between the economy/money, and the landscape/environment. I wanted it to be specific to the place, but also have a more general read to have it extend beyond the boundaries of my immediate area. I was inspired by the flux of landscaping that I see in my area. They'll dig up perfectly nice trees and fauna, demolish it, and then plant new things with no consideration of what the plant actually needs in its environment. They just want it to be aesthetically pleasing to visitors. I want to know what you all think. What do you think of with this piece? What do you think of the relationship between money and our environment? For more images, check in my Sculpture section. Hello, everyone! It's been quite a while since I've been able to put things up on here. I just wanted to let you all know what I was up to! I'll have a lot of new pictures up-and-coming, but I figured I would do some individual posts for each of them. Although the process shots have been seen on my Tumblr blog, I have the finished products of a lot of them. This little guy is my finished "Stuffed" project. Our theme for this Fibers project was to create a being from an already-created stuffed animal, but to alter it in such a way that the original was just about unrecognizable. This is just a quick photo of him, so I'll put up a better one in my portfolio later. But I wanted you all to be able to see him! More photos can be seen on my DeviantArt account. The official title for him is still under a bit of debate, but I figure he's a combination between a jelly Well, the semester is over! I've finished all of my paintings for my class, and I did quite well, grade-wise. Now it's time to make some art for myself rather than assignments; I'm so excited! But, what I did do was put up all of my finished paintings and my "open assignment" paintings! The one pictured here is "Scully- Moss," my Sean Scully-inspired piece. I really had so much fun with this process and I really want to try it some more! Maybe I should try some other shapes and build upon the process... Anyway, if you check out the 2D page, then you can see all of the rest of my new paintings, such as my lovely Elias painting! Now I'm on to enjoying my break and trying to create some more artwork! Any suggestions on media or inspiration? Wow, I can't believe it's already the last day of November! Things went by so quickly! Thanksgiving, some of my finals have even happened already... I still have another week of classes and then finals week, though. Good luck to everyone on their tests!
As far as Thanksgiving, I had a very busy Thanksgiving break. Actual Thanksgiving Day was very nice: had dinner with the family, just us staying at home and relaxing. I ended up sleeping a lot for the long hours I worked on Black Friday! I had all of the best intentions to paint, but I was working literally every day of this break, so I didn't have much time. But don't worry, viewers, I do have some things to show for my time! First of all is my LOGO at the top of the page, if you glossed over that! Created in my Computer Graphics class, at least for now, it's going up there! My second addition is in the Graphic Design section of my website! I created my own image of Hannibal, based off of the image of him on the Hannibal Rising movie featuring Gaspard Ulliel for a project for Computer Graphics. We got to use Adobe Illustrator for this. I fought with that pen tool (class-wide joke: we ALL fought with the pen tool!) for a while, but it came out pretty nicely. I do have some more paintings in the making, one being about 40% done, the other being maybe 50% done. Hopefully I'll get some time in this weekend and be able to put them up for viewing! Wow, October has already come and gone! My Halloween was very good, I got to dress up as the Cheshire Cat for a Mad Hatter Tea Party the Saturday before. On the actual day, I stayed at home and watched some good Halloween movies, so I had a lot of fun! It's crazy, I can't believe November is here so quickly. But that means we all get to look forward to Thanksgiving, so I suppose I'm alright with that! The picture above is my newest painting, "Swimming in a Sea of Soup." It began as a two inch by three inch collage, and then was developed into a two foot by three foot painting. I had so much fun with this one, and I'm considering doing another one like it. I have a few other things in the making, so we'll see what's next up here! Perhaps something... graphic design? Lastly, it's National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo)! If you like to write and haven't yet, join the challenge of writing 50K words in a month! I've joined up! If that's not quite your thing, pick up a good novel this month and just start reading! I'll be doing some character sketches for my characters for my book, so if you're interested to see some, stay tuned to my DeviantArt page! Hello, everyone! There's been a few additions to the family here on My Art and I, so I thought I would introduce them! Firstly, I've added a Graphic Design folder to my Portfolio. There's about one piece in there now, but there will be more coming up soon!
Also, three more paintings were added to the Two Dimensional Design gallery, so if you're a fan of the Legend of Korra, try that one on for size! One is a piece that was inspired by artist Sean Scully. I'm doing a total of three layers of paint for that one, but I'll show each of the layers so you can choose whichever version you like! I'll be interested to hear what you guys think of them and which version you think is the best! Maybe I'll have a poll... Also, I've started looking into Hannah Stouffer's work even more and have a few concepts in the making right now. We'll see how this goes! I thought I'd give a bit of an explanation to my most recent work, with the two "Political Campaign 2012" versions.
With the upcoming election, I'm really trying to be the most educated voter that I can be. I know that my voice can make a difference, and the voices of the people are the things that decide who leads our nation. But upon trying to learn what each candidate stood for, the only thing that I could find was them bad-mouthing one another. Yes, I know that's part of campaigning and propaganda and all... But what I want to know is what are your beliefs? What will you do for this country, and what are your plans for the future, and can you act them out? I don't want to know about each other's dirty laundry. Yes, it's a factor, but when that's ALL that I hear about each candidate, it makes me not think of either of them in a positive light. This work, though in two parts, is my response to those commercials I keep seeing. The two versions of my work have two different feels. The first looks a lot cleaner, and I didn't want to lose the image of what it looked like before the mud, on a literal and symbolic level. The "Mudslinging" version brings home the true meaning behind the work and the type of propaganda that inspired it. The thing I'm most happy about is that I've actually learned how to pay attention more to the commercials and different campaigning strategies and forms, whether it's through commercials on media sites, on my television, or in the paper. I have seen the commercials get better and get down to what they truly believe, so I'm ver *This is meant in no way to offend or be thought of as violent towards either candidates or parties. I simply just want to know what you both believe so that I can make my choice. Give me the choice so I can truly choose the best candidate for the job; not the one that comes out the cleanest in the fight. <3 * So what do you all think about the campaigns? Anyone agree with me? Disagree? This past Friday was another photoshoot day for me! But this time, I got to be the model! For any of you out there who enjoy cosplay, or just some interesting photos, you can go and see them in the Modeling section of my website!
The characters that I portrayed are Puck aka Robin Goodfellow from Julie Kagawa's "The Iron Fey" series, along with an original character of my own named Kaoru Akagane. We had a great time! I swear, I was either getting into costume, doing hair, doing make-up, driving to a location, or posing from about 7:45am until 3:30pm! Of course, we got a well-deserved lunch break in the middle, but it was a lot in one day. But of course, the pictures came out wonderfully thanks to our photographer, Cara O'Neal. Hello, everyone! I just put up some new photos in my "Photography" section! My newest images are part of a project dealing with emulating the feelings and aesthetics of another artist to combine with your own view. Who do you think they resemble?
